Alicia Christian "Jodie" Foster is an American actress, director and producer. She has been nominated for several awards and received two Oscars, three British Academy Film Awards, three Golden Globe Awards and the Cecil B. DeMille Award, among others. As a director, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. Foster began her professional career as a child model at the age of three, and she began acting in 1968 on the television sitcom Mayberry R.F.D. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, she worked in a number of television series and made her film debut alongside Disney's Napoleon and Samantha. After appearing in Tom Sawyer's musical and Martin Scorsese's comedy Alice Not Living Here, Foster's foray came with Scorsese's psychological thriller Taxi Driver, in which she played a child prostitute; she received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

She rose to prominence after starring as a teen prostitute in Martin Scorsese's 1976 film Taxi Driver. She was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress for her parts in The Accused and Silence of the Lambs, and she also appeared in Contact, Anna and the King, and Panic Room.
