Payne made her singer debut in 2008 while auditioning for British television series The X Factor. After being eliminated from the competition, he auditioned again in 2010 and was put in a group with four other candidates to form One Direction. Payne has worked with other producers under the nicknames "Big Payno" and "Payno" to create remixes of her band and songs by Cheryl. After the One Direction hiatus, Payne signed a recording deal with Republic Records in North America. In May 2017, Payne released "Strip That Down" as the lead single from her debut album. It peaked at No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100, certified platinum in both countries. His debut album, LP1, was released in December 2019. He sold over 18 million singles in just two years since One Direction and over 3.9 billion livestreams during his career at that time.
